Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.   I want to quit smoking. Where should I start?

A great place to start is to talk with your doctor and obtain resources that are available in your community. You can also call the California Smokers' Helpline at 1-800-NO-Butts or visit their website https://www.nobutts.org for more tobacco cessation resources and assistance.

2.   What does PRIME stand for?

PRIME stands for Public Hospital Redesign and Incentives in Medi-Cal. Over 2016-2020, 37 safety net hospital clinics are reporting on tobacco treatment quality metrics in the California Department of Health Care Services’ Public Hospital Redesign and Incentives in the Medi‐Cal (PRIME) program.  CA Quits is reaching out to these clinics to share evidence-based practices, including connecting electronically to the California Smokers’ Helpline, and population health strategies. This builds off of the UC Quits project which has connected the 5 UC health systems with the California Smokers’ Helpline. For more information about PRIME, you can click here.
